Louisiana Democratic Party Disability Caucus to Trump: We Will Not Be Silenced

Baton Rouge, LA — August 21, 2025 — The Louisiana Democratic Party Disability Caucus is outraged by President Donald Trump’s executive order to eliminate mail-in (absentee) ballots. This blatant assault on democracy strikes at the heart of the disability community, the elderly, and our veterans — those who have already sacrificed so much for this nation.

“Let’s be clear: without mail-in voting, millions of Americans will be silenced,” said Lynette Bech, Co-Chair of the LDP Disability Caucus]. “Disabled people, seniors, and our servicemembers rely on absentee ballots to make their voices heard. Taking that away isn’t just cruel — it’s voter suppression, plain and simple.”

The Caucus declared that it will not sit quietly while rights are stripped away under the guise of politics. “We will not go quietly into the night. We will not let Congress or this President rip away our vote,” continued Ms.Bech. “We will fight, we will rage, and we will organize until every disabled person, every elder, every veteran has their ballot in hand and their voice heard. Enough is enough!”

The Louisiana Democratic Party Disability Caucus calls on every Louisianan — disabled or not — to stand up, speak out, and resist this attack on democracy. The right to vote is not negotiable, and the Caucus will fight to protect it at every level.
